CPhI Worldwide: Event Overview and Highlights of the 30th Edition

CPhI Worldwide will return for its 30th year on 5-7 November 2019 at Messe Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany. The event unites the pharma industry, with six events covering all aspects of the supply chain, from ingredients and finished dosage to machinery, packaging, outsourcing and biopharmaceuticals.

The world’s largest pharmaceutical exhibition, CPhI Worldwide provides the foremost setting to network and source cost-effective pharma solutions from all over the world – in just three days and in a single venue. Marking another record-breaking year for the exhibition, 2019 will see 45,000+ attendees and 2,500+ international exhibitors travelling from over 160 countries.

“I look forward to welcoming attendees to Frankfurt in what is a truly landmark year for CPhI Worldwide, as we celebrate our 30th anniversary. Fittingly, we are hosting the event in the same city it all began three decades ago. This is a big moment for not only CPhI Worldwide, but also the wider industry, which has grown apace with us throughout this time. In fact, if you look at our history with the creation of co-locates, and our launches in new markets, you will see a clear symbiosis in how the industry has grown.

But this is also a special year for P-MEC – as the only dedicated machinery exhibition in Europe – and many machinery innovations are supporting the newer pipeline of drugs and, just as crucially, helping lower the cost of manufacturing. So this year we are placing a special spotlight on P-MEC to help emphasize the real potential for game-changing partnerships. With more than 150 exhibitors showcasing their technologies – double the number in 2018 – I would encourage all attendees to visit this part of the event.” . Orhan Caglayan, Brand Director at Informa Markets.

Co-located sub-events

Running concurrently with the pharmaceutical ingredients and ISCE halls are four other nearby brands, providing further opportunities to locate exhibitors in the wider supply chain.

ICSE serves to connect outsourcing providers, manufacturers and service experts from across the pharmaceuticals industry. It attracts exhibitors from logistics & cold chain, bio services, (pre) clinical trials, CRO, clinical data management, analytical and lab services and CDMOs. Beyond the exhibition floor, ISCE also provides detailed content and talks throughout all three days in the Pharma Insight Briefings theatre – located inside the ISCE hall.

P-MEC provides the only European platform to focus on pharmaceutical machinery this year. It is dedicated to pharmaceutical equipment and provides access to the latest testing technology and pharma machinery. It features exhibitors from traditional large-scale capital equipment to companies focused on instrumental analysis, measuring and testing technologies, materials testing, laboratory and quality control.

InnoPack brings together pharmaceutical packaging & drug delivery systems, uniting buyers and suppliers from the packaging and pharmaceutical industries. The exhibition’s content theatre will highlight global packaging solutions in addition to the latest innovations and products in the industry. The day one keynote includes an assessment of the latest trends in developing sustainable packaging.

Finished Dosage Formulation (FDF) brings together companies involved in every aspect of the finished dosage supply chain, from big pharma and CMOs to in/out licensing and dossier specialists, end-product distributors and end-user agents. With interest in generic medicines growing – driven by mounting patent losses, efforts to cut healthcare spending, and the increased incidence of age and lifestyle related diseases – FDF provides a vital platform to promote the development of successful partnerships in finished dose supply.

BioProduction Congress focuses on bioprocessing and biomanufacturing and 2019 is the first year in which the event will be co-located at CPhI Worldwide.

The entire spectrum of biopharmaceutical development and production will be represented at the event. Attendees can connect with over 550 mammalian and microbial biomanufacturing decision makers and scientists from upstream, downstream, cell line development, analytics, digitalization and manufacturing strategy – representing over 160 companies from over 30 countries across Europe, North America and Asia. Networking is facilitated by a partnering programme, which is open to registrants. The congress’ bespoke sessions cover five streams of activity, including upstream processing & cell culture, manufacturing strategy/technology and smart factories, downstream processing, microbial manufacturing, and bioanalytical & formulation.

Extras and additional Features

The CPhI Pharma Awards have been recognizing innovation in the Pharmaceutical industry since 2003 by celebrating ground breaking thinkers and creators that drive the industry forward. There are 12 award categories open to all Pharmaceutical companies engaged in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of large and small molecule drug products. Last year’s awards saw 17 winners from 250 countries, with Nanobiotix winning both ‘Pharma Company of the Year’ and ‘CEO’ categories.

Content Sessions: The Pharma Insight Briefings will run throughout each of the three Pharma Insight Briefing theatres covering CPhI, ICSE and InnoPack/P-MEC industries – spanning some 60+ seminars. A keynote speaker will begin each day by delivering the latest industry trends and insights. The sessions are a priority for pharmaceutical professionals who are aiming to expand their knowledge on up and coming therapeutic areas and business opportunities.

Two new podiums will be introduced this year: Natural Extracts and World of Pharma, providing two days of discussions and debate.

Natural Extracts will cover global trends across nutraceuticals, natural ingredients and holistic health, with in-depth sessions running across Tuesday and Wednesday.

World of Pharma will focus on regional trends, market dynamics and regulatory updates for the UK, Africa/Middle East, US, China, India, Korea and Japan. A new feature for 2019, it provides key insights to help grow business in new markets.

The Innovation Gallery again returns to highlight new innovative products and solutions – providing an opportunity to discover such pharmaceutical developments in packaging and drug delivery solutions. Attendees can register for a free Innovation Tour, where exhibitors give a 3-minute pitch on their innovation on the show floor.

The Women in Leadership Forum (Wednesday 6 November at the Frankfurt Marriott Hotel – directly opposite the main entrance) will take place for the sixth year in a row (15:30-18:30). The Forum will provide a platform for industry professionals and inspirational speakers to exchange ideas on how to build the ‘future-fit’ workplace.

M&A Forum

Taking place on Wednesday (15:30-17:30) in Hall 4, the M&A forum will explore what the practical implications of the M&A process are in Pharma, with a focus on their impact on SMEs. The event will provide an opportunity to hear direct from dealmakers, investors and innovators on the current market – it includes analysis of 2019 outlook for 2020, and even a special panel discussion.

Emphasizing that CPhI Worldwide is also a key opportunity to learn about new trends, business insights and prospects, the revered CPhI Annual Report launches its 7th edition. This eagerly anticipated collection of essays will provide thought leadership on the industry’s hottest topics and issues, with contributions by Ajaz Hussain, Emil Ciurczak, Vetter Pharma, and PharmSource amongst others, as well as the eagerly anticipated results of the CPhI Pharma Index – a reputational ranking of major pharmaceutical economies.
